Tasting
Highly appropriate purple with a violet rim, animating nose, densely layered aromas of Dirndln (=cornel cherries), stewed sour cherries, dark cherries and black berries, lilac, completed by a touch of chocolate. Fruit-driven, also blue May-flowers. Dry, round spiciness, well integrated into a soft body which hinds its muscles behind fine tannins. Wide aroma spectrum of sun ripened fruits and spicy nuances, pleasant and juicy finish which calls for more as it combines juice and power. This wonderful combination of juiciness and power in the aftertaste asks for more. So powerful yet endowed with crispy acidity – that´s Zweigelt from Rust at its best! With friendly help of 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Nevertheless, always on the cool side.
Pairing
Who doesn't know the Waldviertel-hot dog with pickled garnish? Beetroot gratinated with Scamorza, Parmigiana made of home-grown vegetables. Quark noodles with smoked green peppers and “Jack-bacon”. Multi-talented – and above all to kick off a party! Backed potatoes with truffles and egg yolk ... to match powerful soups made of smoked pork, beans or even pot barley. With the usual pizza - in case you are in hurry, or accompanying a late breakfast with smoked fish or an early brunch serving potato-goulash. Cheese bread with peperonata or a rich Brettljause (cold meat dishes) fall also for the TRIE. If you prefer tofu, just try it. Of course, the 2021 vintage shows a nice potential for “seriously” enjoying more than one or the other glass - or functions as “reset” after a glass of Oberer Wald or before turning to Plachen.
Making
