Rust Core Expertise

We have travelled far to discover Rust: after numerous and interesting stays abroad, we have finally come to the point that we honestly appreciate our wine-growing region and the importance of their autochthonous grape varieties. That’s why we strive uncompromisingly to produce well-structured, individual wines with Burgenland-typicity, since we took over the winery in 2003 – wines which focus on “Rust core expertise.”

Rust Is A Small Wine World In Its Own Right

Favoured by the unique arena-shaped vineyards at the western shore of Lake Neusiedl, all grape varieties achieve ripeness and thus allow for all styles of wines. Although our range of products is diversified - historically grown and as a guide to various markets - wine-growing in Rust has concentrated on three core areas of expertise over the centuries:

Furmint & Yellow Muscat

The traditional grape varieties. In our case, fruity, crispy and dry. With brilliant mineral aromas from quartz to slate and from the middle of the slope. A result of skilled and consequent hand-picking into small boxes.

Blaufränkisch

Fiery, intensively fruity Blaufränkisch from loamy soils with chalky subsoils has been a safe bet for 1200 years. By far, it is the most important grape variety, a rising trend. Larger basic quantities allow for an even better selection, resulting in a fruity, spicy Blaufränkisch Classic 2008 and a tightly knit Blaufränkisch Reserve 2006 and 2007.

Ruster Ausbruch

And finally the concentrated and balanced Ruster Ausbruch, an original, traditional wine since the Renaissance. Grape variety of choice - the late ripening Welschriesling which excels with spiciness, opulent peach fruit and finesse. From time to time, elegant and profound Praedikat wines made from other grape varieties “occur,” as currently with the Ruster Ausbruch Sauvignon Blanc 2006.

The current white wine vintage 2008, the highly-prized Ruster Ausbruch 2006 and a preview of the captivatingly good red wine vintage 2007, should focus the attention on the Rust core expertise. An interaction of traditional grape varieties – grown in an ideal ambiance and vinificated in a modern manner.
