Winery Günter and Regina Triebaumer

For centuries, the name Triebaumer has stood for winemaking in the Lake Neusiedl region. As early as 1691, the Triebaumer family settled in Rust. Based on the traditions of a well established wine grower’s family in Burgenland, Günter Triebaumer and Regina Limbeck follow their individual, very up-to-date path. Learning from tradition and following their credo: Looking openly minded into the future, keep moving. Günter and Regina have paired for life – and for the wine. They make a perfect team.

Blaufränkisch: A Passion

The grape variety Blaufränkisch plays the main role in the Triebaumer Winery. There are good reasons for this. The Ruster Hügelland`s climatic and geological conditions offer ideal qualifications for the production of top-quality wines from the Blaufränkisch grapes. And vice versa: The characteristics of the Blaufränkisch perfectly qualify this grape variety for Austria’s eastern wine growing regions. Rust offers unique conditions: The variety grows on loamy soils with chalky sub-soils. This combination of topsoil and bedrock enhances its unmistakable identity and differentiates it from other Blaufränkisch regions.

The Günter Triebaumer Winery cultivates a total of 6 ha in the Rieden Oberer Wald, Pandkräftn, Plachen and Gemärk. The plantation of the vineyards and selection of rootstocks guarantee that the vines can remain untouched for generations and grow peacefully old. The Blaufränkisch wines from Rust are – thanks to smaller yields and good conditions for full ripening - generally powerful and fiery. The main aroma compounds include all sorts of cherries, accompanied by hints of black berries and, in the case of maturation in barriques, cinnamon and cloves.

Ruster Ausbruch – Gold at Lake Neusiedl

The Ruster Ausbruch is vinificated from a selection of dried grape berries of exceptional structure and finesse. A local specialty which in Rust looks back on a century-long tradition and creates wine identity. The vineyards in Rust offer ideal conditions for the production of the Ruster Ausbruch. Thereby, the large water surface of Lake Neusiedl, the Ruster Hügelland which opens in a wide round onto the lake – the grower of Ruster Ausbruch call it an “amphitheatre” – and the special interaction of sun and humidity are of particular significance. The soils (mica slate and shell limestone) add the final mineral touch to these noble elixirs.

One of the main characters playing in this amphitheatre is the rightly threatened fungus “Botrytis cinerea” which can do great harm. However, under certain climatic conditions Botrytis may considerably contribute to the refinement of the berries. In the vineyards of the Free City of Rust it affects the berries almost every year at exactly the right time. This timing brings about that the skins of the berries do not rot but become macerated. Resulting in the evaporation of part of their substance – mainly water. The extract remains in the berries. Highly concentrated.

Günter and Regina have the feeling and patience to take the right decision at the right time. The results are unique noble sweet wines. The fluid gold fascinates with a perfect balance between acidity, alcohol and residual sugar. Palate and nose display sumptuous baskets of fruit, bouquets of flowers and a whole mixture of spices. From the vintage 1989 onwards the Ausbruch wines are vinificated in a reductive way. Whenever the vintage permits it, we aim at producing a Ruster Ausbruch.
